Preview of Updated ACOOS Scholarship Award Criteria and Process
At this year’s Parish Assembly, the assembly approved updated criteria for evaluating applicants and awarding scholarships beginning with this year’s application cycle. Preference will be given to applicants who meet the following criteria.
l Engagement in the life of the Church (for example, Sunday School, youth group, attending church services, serving on altar or choir, serving on church committees)
- Volunteering for Church programs and events
- Family Stewardship
- Financial Need
Examples of criteria for the first three bullets include, but are not limited to: Altar/Choir Server, Sunday/Toddler School staff, St. Vartan Camp or St. Nersess participant/staff, Church Volunteer (Festival, Picnic, Outreach)
Accordingly, the 2024 scholarship applications are in the process of being updated to account for the updated criteria. Applications will be ready for distribution by the church in the second half of July.

What has not changed?
- The Scholarship Committee will be responsible for authoring, distributing, and evaluating scholarship applications under the auspices of and with oversight from the Parish Council.
- The timeline for applications, evaluation, award decisions and award fellowship will take place from July through the Sunday after Thanksgiving when scholarship recipients will be recognized at a special fellowship.
- The pool of scholarship funds is derived from the annual proceeds of defined scholarship funds and any other sources designated by the Parish Council.
What Aspiring Scholarship Applicants should do now?
- Applicants are encouraged to volunteer or register for any of the activities outlined above at their earliest convenience.

- The upcoming Church Picnic on Sunday, June 9th is the perfect volunteering opportunity.
