Women’s Guild

The year 2006 was another busy year for the Women’s Guild.  In February we held a Valentine’s Day meeting, social and bingo party which was enjoyed by all.

As in the years past, the Guild sponsored a Lenten dinner where we served a beautiful fish dinner.  We were privileged to have Archbishop Khajag Barsamian, Primate in attendance.  Only a few days later, 24 members attended the Saintly Women’s Day church service and program at Holy Trinity Church in Cambridge.  We also baked choreg and dyed Armenian Easter eggs using onion peels to be served at the Easter Fellowship.

In May we offered carnations in honor and in memory of our mothers on Mother’s Day.  Several Guild members also participated in the Women’s Guild Assembly held at St. Leon’s Church in NJ.

Just before summer, a group of guild members and friends took a day trip to Salem, Gloucester and Rockport visiting the Peabody Essex Museum, followed by a scenic tour of the area and a luncheon at the Gloucester House.  Even though it was a terrible day, everyone had a great time even shopping in Rockport in the rain.

Many Guild members prepared all types of pastries for sale at our Annual Church Picnic.  Due to a rain storm that day, the picnic had to be held at the church hall.

We started the Fall with a yard sale at the parish house parking lot on September 9.  It was a perfect day and was extremely successful.  Many of our talented guild members prepared and sold baked goods for the Church Festival at the end of October.  In addition, gift baskets were donated and raffled off.  We also sold costume jewelry, notecards donated by Linda Donoian and some beautiful handmade sweaters donated by Ardem Andonian.

We continue to make year end donations to local and regional charities as well as support St. Tarkmanshantz School in Jerusalem.  Children in Armenia are also supported through our participation in the CASP project.

Many dedicated members of our Guild continue to visit shut-ins and parishioners recuperating from illness.  Our Altar Committee prepares are beautiful church altar.

Our year ended on a high note for our organization.  The Guild sponsored a Christmas Gala Dance held on December 16.  Word has it that everyone who attended had a great time.

My own personal thanks go to Der Aved for his guidance, to our Church Secretary Sharon Sendrowski who makes things so much easier for a lot of us, and to my board members and standing committee members, as well as the Guild event coordinators. Most importantly thanks to all the members and friends who continue to support parish and guild events throughout the year.

Our mission is to provide all the women with the opportunity to take an active role in the life of the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, to share in fellowship and service, and to promote the customs, traditions, culture and heritage of our Church.

Respectfully submitted
