Sunday School

This year in Sunday School we hope to foster spiritual fulfillment by creating meaningful activities and events that unite Church and Home: One in Spirit. By families participating together in Church activities and events, we can share our rich Armenian culture, heritage, history, and faith which will continue to strengthen our Church for generations to come.

There are 114 children enrolled in Sunday School in the 2006/2007 academic year. It was quite a challenge, however, this year to fill some of the teaching position. With a strong appeal, a few faithful parishioners stepped forward in our time of need and took on the challenging task of teaching. Foremost, we thank God for the many dedicated teachers who continue to offer their teaching talents, year after year, without hesitation.

In 2006, we have already accomplished many tasks. In October, the 9th and 10th grade children had a wonderful, educational experience with the children from St. James Armenian Church in Watertown. We attended Church service, enjoyed lunch, and then toured the amazing Armenian Library and Museum of America.  We plan to invite the St. James’s children to our Church in the spring for another great get together. Thanksgiving, we collected nonperishable goods and put together three baskets for needy families within our community.  Christmas, we collected toy donations for the Toys for Tots.  In addition, the children made Christmas cornucopias for the Armenian elders. As always, the children were truly creative and generous in sharing with those in need. This year on Christmas Eve we had a lovely church service where a few talented children from our Sunday School performed Christmas songs on the guitar, violin, and saxophone. Finally, we celebrated together in a Church service on Armenian Christmas where the children received Holy Communion and afterward had a delicious breakfast.

Future events and activities will be communicated throughout the year to Sunday School parents via e-mail and will also be posted on the Sunday School bulletin board.  The teachers regularly update the Children’s bulletin board on a monthly basis displaying creative and artistic activities that relate to the children’s learning experience. Choir and assemblies will reinforce the curriculum and promote our history, culture, and faith.  One exciting event planned for this year, with help from the Women’s Guild, is the “Virtual Trip to Armenian.”  This will further strength the church and family bond in a fun, educational learning experience about Armenia.

We hope to continue to make Sunday School a meaningful experience for all children where they feel comfortable and safe.  By embracing our history, heritage, culture, and faith, we hope to build spiritual fulfillment and meet our objective in making our Church a significant part in their lives. By taking last year’s focus of youth-centered objectives and embracing Church with Home we will bring together generations to share faith and the legacy of our ancient Armenian heritage into the twenty-first century.

                                                                        Respectfully Submitted,

Sunday School 9th and 10th Graders

visit ALMA

This trip was made possible through the efforts of our Sunday School staff.

Thanks to Sunday School superintendants, Mrs. Pottle and Mrs Sarkisian.

Our group of 15 students, comprising most of the 9th and 10th grades, departed from Worcester to

meet and attend Badarak at St. James in Watertown with students from their 9th & 10th grade Sunday School classes.

The St. James Sunday School graciously hosted a light lunch for us. Then, we all departed for the Museum.

Our thanks to Gary and Susan Lind-Sinanian for personally taking us through the whole museum,

explaining its origin and growth, as well as providing us with facinating descriptions of many of the items on display.

They are currently featuring:

"Undercover: Armenian Textiles of Bed and Bath"

We even noticed an authentic bathrobe donated by our own Berjouhie Zakarian!

Some of the permanent items on display include a collection of pictures and items from the Armenian Genocide,

Armenian musical instruments, artworks created by young students, as well as paintings and poems by Dr. Jack Kevorkian.

Mrs. Pottle addresses the students on proper museum behavior.

Our 10th Graders

The whole group!

Special thanks to Mrs. Alabashian, Sunday School superintendant of St. James.

I look forward to Toddlers Class each week, the bewildered faces looking at me when I’m telling a Bible story, the little hands trying to make the sign of the cross, the way they say their “Anoon Hor”, the smiles and laughter at song time, hearing their stories, and of course, the hugs and kisses, all make me very happy and I’m so happy that it has brought joy to others as well. I thank God for the opportunity to serve Him, through this Holy Church, by helping in some small way to bring His Children closer to Him.
